Despite the recent changes in laws regarding same-sex marriage, the LGBTQIA population continues to experience an unprecedented level of oppression and to experience injustice. The work of the HRC in this field attempts to provide educational opportunities to the general public, a safe place for LGBTQIA individuals to voice concerns, an avenue to address political change, and collaboration with other local organizations working on making Alachua County a safe place for all.
The LGBTQIA work seeks to bring together those who have a desire to improve the lives of the LGBTQIA population and includes individuals, businesses, other non-profits, and religious institutions.
